magnolia, seeds, privet

Posted by Picasa
It's magnolia time.

Large seeds, such as beans and peas, rattle in their packets. Small seeds like lettuce, parsley or carrot, tend to rustle. Both, large and small seeds, resting in their packets, are the best prod to action in the vegetable garden.

The privet hedge, sparse all winter, has erupted in small green buds. It is a pleasing sight, but one that contains the knowledge of summer chores to come.
